Phytoplankton Monitoring Network
Background
Since early 2021, a dedicated group of citizens have committed to taking water samples at Lacamas Lake weekly, regardless of the weather. Because of the hard work this team has put forth, we have been able to keep a close eye on changes happening within the lake as well as being fast to know when there is the presence of cyanobacteria.
Methodology
Our teams of volunteers are trained by retired botany professor and Board member Rodger Hauge. Our data is collected weekly at several sites across Lacamas, Round, Fallen Leaf, and Vancouver Lakes and compiled by Vicky Wessling, Board member and fieldwork coordinator.
We are working to expand our sampling to include a regular survey of macroinverebrates and additional chemistry markers, such as phosphorous.
Results
Data is regularly uploaded to our Data Dashboard and results are published quarterly in our newsletter and on our Field Reports page.
